Ice Cream Bars
Ingredients
half-gallon of ice cream, flavor of your choice
instant-hardening ice cream topping
shredded coconut or chopped nuts
Materials
plastic sandwich bags
piece of string or ribbon
scissors
cookie sheet
dessert sticks
Method
Start with a half-gallon carton of your favorite ice cream. Make sure the ice cream is
frozen very stiff. Cut the ice cream into nine equal portions by making two horizontal
cuts and two vertical cuts.
Lay the portions out on a cookie sheet and insert a frozen dessert stick into each
portion. Drizzle the ice cream bars with an instant-hardening ice cream topping that
forms a shell when poured on ice cream. Turn the bars over and drizzle the other
side. If desired, top bars with other toppings such as shredded coconut or chopped
nuts.
Place bars into the freezer until refrozen, then take out and wrap each bar in a
sandwich bag. Secure the bag around the stick with a piece of string or ribbon and
return to the freezer until ready to eat.
Ice Cream Cones
Ingredients
half-gallon carton of vanilla ice cream
chocolate chips
small marshmallow
waffle cone
chocolate sauce
crushed nuts
Materials
wineglass
plastic wrap
Method
Begin by allowing a half-gallon carton of vanilla ice cream to soften. Dump the
softened ice cream into a large bowl, and fold in any extra treats such as chocolate
chips. Drop a small marshmallow or upside-down Hershey’s “kiss into a
waffle cone to prevent ice cream from leaking out of the bottom.
Stand the cone in a wineglass and fill with the ice-cream mixture. Top with a squirt of
chocolate sauce and place into the freezer. Once it hardens, bring the cone out of the
freezer and add a scoop of ice cream.
Sprinkle with crushed nuts and more chocolate sauce, wrap in plastic and freeze
again until ready to serve.
Ice Cream Sandwiches
Ingredients
8 large cookies
ice cream
miniature chocolate chips
chocolate topping
Method
Start with eight large cookies. Spread a cookie with ice cream, top with another
cookie, wrap in foil and freeze until ready to serve. If desired, allow ice cream to
soften first and stir in extra goodies such as miniature chocolate chips or swirl in some
chocolate topping.
Ice Cream Tips & Hints
Low-fat ice cream melts faster than the full-flavored, fat-laden variety. It will quickly
dissolve into a puddle when served on top of warm desserts.
A sticky carton is a warning sign that the ice cream may have melted, then become
refrozen. Ice cream doesn't taste the same once it has thawed, so it may be time to
invest in a fresh carton of ice cream.
Spray an ice cream scooper with nonstick cooking spray before dishing out the ice
cream. This will allow frozen desserts to easily slide off the scooper.
